JAPANESE STURGEON

The Sturgeon, colorfully called the "Butterfly Shark" in Japanese and the "Armored Shark" in Korean, this ancient fish that dates back to the time of dinosaurs is recorded onto paper as many have as fossilized stone.

This particular Sturgeon was printed at a fish farm on the Korean Peninsula.

Do please notice that this magnificent fish was printed at a 3/4 angle rather than straight from its side which is typical of Gyotaku prints. This more three dimensional appearance being more difficult to achieve, was done to accentuate the broad shape of its body and convey a sense of royal-like existence.
