Rare color print of bu dai
On rare occasion, I will create a print using Japanese watercolors instead of sumi ink. And only on fish that, without color, are difficult to ascertain what species it is.
This print of a tropical Bu Dai or Parrot Fish, is one of the few exceptions of my strict, and at times stubborn faithfulness to black sumi. In contrast to the popular modern method of printing in black and then hand painting colors on top of it, I chose to print with colors from the start to better reflect how a traditionalist might approach it.
Please note that the paper is white, but due to the lighting, it appears light sepia.
The paper measures 17x15 inches (43x38cm).
